Veteran Day is November 11th, and I'd like to provide some quick facts about veterans in the United States today. These are just a handful of the many reasons why we should commemorate them on this particular occasion!

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), there are presently 21.8 million living veterans in the United States, implying that more than one out of every ten Americans has served in the military at some point in our country's history. This is a true story about my grandfather, who was an American soldier serving in World War II. He fought for his country against the Germans and sacrificed so much to make sure that our freedom remained intact. I am grateful for all of the veterans who have served before me- they are heroes, just like my grandfather!

It is a privilege to honor the life of my grandfather who served in World War II. I am grateful that he was able to come home and live a full life with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an example of faithfulness even when faced with difficult decisions on the battlefield. I pray for those men and women today as they serve our country overseas or here at home. May God bless them all especially those who have given their lives so we can live free from fear.

Papa Veteran is a World War II veteran who has suffered from PTSD for over seventy years. He is now at the end of his life and suffers from dementia, but he still has one wish left: to find his long lost love, Patricia. Patricia was also a WWII army nurse with Papa Veteran in Europe during 1945-1946. They had fallen deeply in love before she went back to the states with her family at the end of 1946. Their letters stopped coming when they were told that she had died tragically on April 4th 1947 after falling down stairs while pregnant at age 27. The last letter he received said "I will not be able to write you any more."
