We are reborn and set free from the power of sin when we place our faith in Christ. But, now that the old existence is no longer a part of us, why do we continue to fight with sin? What does it mean to live each day as though it's your first? Pastor John Alexander wrestles with these challenges in this talk, gaining a better grasp of what it means to live as a new person, dead to sin and alive in Christ.
We're all sinners who think we're the worst in the world. Our flesh craves sin and attempts to rule our lives in order to fulfill that need. We are the worst, and we must accept that we are deserving of God's wrath and deserve to be punished. We are all born with a sinful nature, and our deepest desires are driven only by an evil desire.
As a result, we must acknowledge that Jesus died not only for our sins, but for the sins of the entire world. Not only did Jesus defeat sin and death, but He also defeated and restored humanity's relationship with God. We have been set free from Adam's wicked captivity, and our relationship with the genuine God has been restored. As a result of Christ's death, we have been transformed from Adam's sinful race to Christ's fully righteous and pure race. We are then united with Christ and freed from our ties to the first creation (the old sinful nature), the curse of the law, and everything else that binds us to our sinful nature and condemns us to an eternity of misery.
We must never lose sight of the truth that we are sinless and life in Christ. That is, our sinful nature has died, and we have been united with Christ's life. Since we died to our old selves, we have been living in our new life, which is bestowed by God's grace. However, just because we've died to sin doesn't mean we've completely lost our desire to sin. These desires will reappear at some point in our new lives. It will always long for death to be vanquished in Christ, so that we can live by it once more. On the other side, Christ has given us the ability to resist and flee evil. He has provided us with the Scriptures to assist us in resisting these impulses and to remind us that we are already in Him and that He is in us.

We must never lose sight of the fact that we have died to sin and are now living in Christ. We, too, were crucified with Christ, and it is He, not we, who lives. We must meditate on and utilize His Word as a compass because we cannot allow our old selves to return. May we be eternally grateful to God for the blessings He has bestowed upon us. We must put Christ's new life to good use for the benefit of His glory and the expansion of His Kingdom.
