According to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), there are presently 21.8 million living veterans in the United States, implying that more than one out of every ten Americans has served in the military at some point in our country's history. Approximately 6 million of these soldiers are still alive today; however, over 2 million will age 65 each year over the next 20 years (VA). Hundreds of organizations exist to assist military personnel and their families once they return home from active duty.
