"He is risen," as the phrase implies, denotes that Jesus was raised from the grave and is currently in the presence of God in heaven. It means He has triumphed over death, and those who believe in Him will live forever.

Serve with humility

Throughout his life, Christ exemplified profound humility. The washing of the disciples' feet is one example that comes to mind during this time (John 13). We should serve in ways that require us to let go of our pride, inspired by the way Jesus served humbly and lovingly.

Make sacrifices

Although our sacrifices will never be as significant as Christ's, the idea can still be used. Everything has a price tag attached to it. Whether we are moved by Jesus' example to contribute or serve by sacrificing our time, money, belongings, or comfort, we should assess who is required to make the biggest sacrifice in the situation.

Forgive

Matthew 26:28 says, "This is my covenant blood, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins." Jesus' sacrifice made it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins, and during his earthly life, he encouraged his disciples to forgive others when they sinned against them. Forgiving individuals who have hurt or disturbed us can feel like an impossible task at times. Focusing on Jesus' teachings on forgiveness and how his death represents God's mercy can help us remember how important forgiveness is to our faith, not just in terms of God's forgiveness of our sins.

Reject sin

"So, what shall we say? Shall we continue to sin in order for grace to grow? Certainly not! We are the ones who have died to sin; how can we continue to live in it?" (See Romans 6:1-2.) Although Jesus' death atoned for our sins and enabled us to be forgiven, this does not mean that we can or should abandon our efforts to avoid sin. We should be "those who have died to sin," as Paul writes, and we can utilize the significance of Jesus' death to motivate us to reject evil behaviors every day.

Resist temptation

The days after the end of our Lenten fast provide us the opportunity to consider if the things we gave up for 40 days and nights are things we should entirely give up. The approach we employ for Lenten fasting is one that we may utilize all year as we try to resist temptation. Temptation persists outside of Lent, but we can increase our spiritual maturity by combining abstention from certain behaviors with prayer and almsgiving in the months between Lent and Easter.
