Christmas is the best time of the year for some, but it is a sad time for others. It's important to remember that not everyone can understand other people's feelings.
Because Christmas is one of the most important dates in the Christian calendar, it is surrounded by dispute and controversy. You'll hear arguments about the exact birth of Jesus Christ date, the inclusion of the Nativity Scene in Christmas trees, whether to say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays," and whether or not to spell Christmas "X-Mas" during this time.
For many people, the holidays are a time of wonderful get-togethers with family and friends. It's a time to consume a lot of food and give and receive gifts.
Many people, on the other hand, have lost their jobs, homes, and financial security. For those people, Christmas will be a time of intense depression. Just having a roof over their heads and a place to sleep will be a blessing.
Then there are those who have lost loved ones, and this time of year brings back memories that make them cry. Husbands had to say their final goodbyes to spouses, women had to say their final goodbyes to husbands, children had to say their final goodbyes to parents, and friends had to say their final goodbyes to pals.
However, the most important aspect of Christmas is that Jesus left his throne in Heaven to take on human form and die on a cross for our sins. Because Jesus cared so much about us sinners, he came to Earth to die in our place. He offered us eternal life as a free gift. Salvation from God is a gift that you can't buy or earn.
The fundamental meaning of the holiday season is this. The reason for the season is Jesus, not Santa Claus or winter solace. You can choose to believe in him or to reject him.
Finally, some people are striving to eliminate all references to Christmas. They pay the "A.C.L.U." to file a lawsuit to remove all nativity scenes from public spaces. They want all songs that mention Jesus taken out of our classrooms. They also demand that Jesus' name be spoken in silence.
These traitors would be deported if our founding fathers were still living today. The right to freedom of religion would be unaffected. Bring a present or two to someone in a nursing home, hospital, or a senior who has lost their spouse this Christmas. Demonstrate Christ's genuine compassion and love.
Have a merry Christmas and may God bless you.
