Anxiety and despair levels in our country have risen dramatically in the last year. Every day, there appears to be a new issue to worry about, ranging from physical health and safety to the emotional toll of ethnic, political, and spiritual conflicts. The pressures of the previous year compounded many people's mental exhaustion. Because the reality of our damaged world is evident, you must choose between feeding your faith and feeding your fear. If you don't make a conscious decision to choose faith over fear, dread will engulf you. This is also true when confronted with difficult inquiries regarding your beliefs.
A hundred responses can back up any point of view on the matter. Reading articles might lead you down a rabbit hole of knowledge that contradicts your beliefs. Allowing oneself to examine those doubts will almost certainly lead to the development of those doubts. Rather, nourish your faith by immersing yourself in God's word, His love, and a thriving church community.
Some people are born with a religion that they can't shake. To be honest, it doesn't always work for me. When I've awoken, I've chosen fear or uncertainty far too many times. I don't feel like I have a choice right now.
We can't afford to be slaves because life is too short and God has too much to do. Jesus says that those who follow Him will experience joy, tranquility, and mental and emotional vigor. Despite this, we frequently make decisions based on fear rather than belief. In her book Faith Over Fear, author and speaker Jennifer Slattery tells us how to grasp how fear has a tremendous hold on our lives and how our identity as God's children can help us move from fear to live faithful, courageous lives.
My heart starts racing as soon as I open my eyes. Doubts and fears enslave my thoughts as I go about my day. Who would choose anything like this for themselves? If I just took a moment to meditate on Christ and allow the Spirit to rest my heart, my day would be different. So it's a decision, whether it's a conscious or unconscious one.
Don't get me wrong: I'm not suggesting that you should avoid dealing with mental health issues. While I think we serve a God who can repair chemical imbalances and the anguish of past trauma (and He can in some situations), I also believe we live in a fallen world where we will continue to experience the repercussions until Jesus returns. But what I mean is that God will give you the strength you need to face that battle every day. It's fine if, like mine, you use medication or seek expert assistance in addition to depending on God's power. That isn't to say that God isn't sufficient. God informs Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, according to the apostle Paul. His grace is sufficient for the thorn in his flesh. In his weakness, his power is perfected. God will use our flaws for His glory; all we have to do is trust Him and make the conscious decision to lean on faith.
